MALMÖ GOT SOME NEW ASPHALT THIS MORNING...
…when Neptunigatan was re-opened after three years. The new stretch connects Gibraltargatan nearby Saluhallen with Västra Varvsgatan and will hopefully speed up the traffic flow in and out of Västra Hamnen.
Along the road there are 28 concrete boxes which are to collect and filter the water from the road and bike tracks. In the boxes there are filter beds and vegetation which are supposed to collect the runoff and slow down the distribution of rain water, snowmelt and prevent pollutants from contaminating the waste water system.
There is still much to do in the area with several new buildings under construction including parts of the former Kockums shipyards. Soon Citadellsvägen along the canal will be closed to traffic and redeveloped to a park and walkway creating a continuation from Malmö Live towards Limhamnsfältet. It is expected to be ready by 2023.
As the fencing closing the former construction site were removed this morning the first car passing through was a taxi. Tomorrow bus lines 2,7 and 8 will go the new route.
Malmö Saluhall who will now get a new main entrance from the opposite side with an outdoor terrace is inviting one-and-all to a Streetparty with free samplers from all their merchants on 5 June, 5-7PM.
